I took my little Mju II loaded with some expired Konica VX100 with me to the Gold Coast a few weeks ago...

Alright, the boys are back in town! For quite some time already to be honest ;) Filming the Goldcoast ASP stopp was a great experience - again. I learn every time when traveling with those guys. Thanks Helli and Matthias for the sick trip! Can't wait for the next ;)
We got to know some nice new friends and ate thai food excessively. Great! Just the waves could have been a little bit better, but I'm not complaining! We caught some nice ones!

Back in Austria I try to spent some last days on the mountains. Snow is melting fast... Good times anyway! Right now I also have some time to edit Indo2010 footage. Everyone is asking for the movie... I know it's about time but it also claims a massive amount of time doing it. Soon...

Oh and Red Bull finally set up a Surf Chronicles page: redbull.tv/Surf-Chronicles you will find all episodes there (right now headlines and episode are not matching sometimes, but I guess they will fix this asap).

The next few days gonna be fun for sure! I'm off to the Goldcoast until the mid of March. Working on this years first episode of Surf Cronicles with good friends! Be prepared for lots of new stuff coming!



The latest ASP news are that Mr. Slater is competing too. And I bet lots of eyes are on the tour rookie Julian Wilson! If you have seen his Indonesia section on his flick "Scratching the surface" you know that he is one of the most talented guys out there...

And for sure I'm gonna catch some waves too... can't wait! ;)

Just finished uploading the Puerto Rico photos on myFlickr. Have a look...

I never mentioned Sony when writing about my favorite digital compact cameras. Just now they released a great little camera, the DSC-HX9V. If you're into video too it's quite impressive! It can shoot 1080p at 60p and 24Mbit with a 24-380mm lens for $350! Not bad at all! Though it's not as fast as its competitors (Canon s95, Olympus XZ-1,...) it has a nice Exmor R™ CMOS sensor for low light shooting.

We already had some really good times on the mountain this season. Let's hope there is more snow coming in February. Check out some GoPro snapshots! Sometimes we film as well and maybe put together a little edit when the season is over...

Filmed over nearly three years, WASTE LAND follows Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world's largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of "catadores" -- self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. Muniz's initial objective was to "paint" the catadores with garbage. However, his collaboration with these inspiring characters as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both the dignity and despair of the catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives. Director Lucy Walker (DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND, BLINDSIGHT, COUNTDOWN TO ZERO) has great access to the entire process and, in the end, offers stirring evidence of the transformative power of art and the alchemy of the human spirit.

I got this old vintage lens recently and yesterday I used it for the first time. This was a spontaneous five minute project (I refuse to write "test") without a concept at all. I tried to give it a filmic feel and I'm quite happy with the outcome.

GH1(3) & Pentacon 29mm/f2.8 (720p/50fps with a shutter of 1/100 mostly at f2.8)
Lensflaring and lens wacking :)
I slightly denoised the footage and did some minor color correction, added little diffusion, put a tiny bit of yellow in to the highlights and blue in to the shadows & added some film grain.
All done in a 32bit comp in After Effects.

As always I recommend to download the source file on Vimeo for best quality visuals (though the compression still kills a lot of lovely grain).
